- Inform your consultant and the hospital if your commencement will be delayed.
- Be realistic of your commencement date, especially if you will be travelling from overseas.
- Arrive early, never late to your employment commencement date. A good idea is to arrive two weeks prior to the commencement of your employment, so you can be settled prior.
- If you and your partner are planning on falling pregnant during this time, it is important to note that it may impact your commencement date and so on.
- Take into account the other factors that may affect your employment such as selling your home may require you to travel independently. Your family can follow at the most opportune time to allow you to settle.

Hours of Work in Australia
Most of our positions are full-time on a rotating roster. (I.e. working morning, afternoon and night shifts). In most instances shifts are rotated equally among the staff on the ward, and you should expect to work all shifts allocated to you. 12 hour shifts are not so common in Australia but are offered in some wards. The average working week is 38-40 hours and most people work an 8 hour shift. On a rotating roster annual leave is generally 6 weeks.
